Florida Panthers’ Brady Tkachuk’s Charity Proposal For Ottawa Senators Jerseys Gets Attention Before Game | NHL - sports.ndtv.com

Brady Tkachuk is set to face the Ottawa Senators for the first time as a member of the Florida Panthers, and some fans are already discussing how they will react to his return. The former Senators captain spent eight seasons in Ottawa before joining Florida. Now, a suggestion he made on his Wingmen podcast has added another talking point ahead of the matchup. Tkachuk said any Senators jerseys thrown onto the ice during the game could be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa, but the idea has received mixed reactions online.

Brady Tkachuk Explains His Plan for Jerseys Thrown on the Ice

Speaking on the podcast Tkachuk explained what he hopes will happen if fans throw his former Ottawa jerseys onto the ice. He said he had spoken with the Panthers about collecting the jerseys and setting them aside for donation.

“It’s going to get donated to a friend at the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa,” Tkachuk said.

He also cautioned fans against throwing jerseys, adding, “I don’t recommend doing it. I mean, if you’re going to do it to send a message, just know it’s going to a good cause. Yes, I received the message. And it’s going to a good cause.”

His brother Matthew had a different reaction, saying, “I want to see 10,000 jerseys on the ice!”

Fans Question the Jersey Donation Plan

The response on social media included questions about who would receive the jerseys and whether the donation would make sense to fans who wanted to protest.

P Caro, wrote, “I think $100 per jersey to charity makes more sense. Who wants an obsolete, used jersey.”

Another user, Claire D, asked, “Where is he donating them? Who would want them?”  Sandym62 also questioned the idea, writing, “Donating to whom? Who wants them? Thats why they’re getting tossed.”

Other comments were more personal. Persimmon raised concerns about the recipients, “So impoverished kids will get those jerseys and will be bullied at school. He truly hates Ottawa and its residents, doesn’t he?”

Others were more supportive. Derek Locke wrote, “I will gladly take any Brady jersey you bitter Senators fans don’t want. I need a white one and reverse retro.”

Nick From Canada also saw a positive side, writing, “Jersey toss turning into charity drive — only Ottawa could make a protest this wholesome Classy move, Brady.”

Tkachuk spent eight seasons with the Senators and worked closely with the Boys & Girls Club during his time in Ottawa.
